Clara “Allene” Mattox

Clara “Allene” Mattox, 91, Valley Falls, KS went to be with her Lord surrounded by her family on January 25th, 2024.

“Allene” was born on July 8,1932 to Sidney and Lola Mitchell in Winchester, KS. She spent her childhood in Winchester and Lawrence involved in the Girl Scouts and her high school years were spent at Tonganoxie High School, Tonganoxie KS, where she was active in the band playing the alto saxophone.

She married Charles Mattox, Sr. on January 22, 1950 and spent many years farming. They were long time members of the Winchester Church of Christ. In 1964, Charles and

“Allene” purchased their 80 acre farm outside of Winchester. In 1972, “Allene” began working as a nurses aid at Jefferson County Memorial Hospital, now FW Huston Medical Center in Winchester, and earned her certification with a perfect score. She continued working for the hospital in Winchester until her retirement in 1998. In 1999 they sold their farm and moved to Valley Falls, KS for their retirement.

“Allene” is survived by one brother George Mitchell, Brookwood, AL, and one sister-in-law, Sunita Mitchell, Hillsboro, OR. Additionally, she is survived by her five children, Charles (Helen) Mattox, Jr., Trimble, MO, Joan Hosler, Valley Falls, KS, Janice (James) Nelson, Wasilla, AK, Joyce (Sonny) Lieb, Norman. OK, and Jeanine (John) Lillo, Anchorage AK. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild with another soon to join the family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sidney and Lola Mitchell, her husband, Charles Mattox, Sr, two brothers, Albert Mitchell, Hillsboro, OR, Meryl Mitchell, Moscow ID, a sister-in-law, Gaylinn Mitchell, Brookwood, AL and a son-in-law, John Hosler, Valley Falls, KS.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM, Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at Valley Falls Christian Church, Visitation will be 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM Service time at the Church. Burial will be Winchester-Wise Cemetery.
