Charles Andrew “Toad” Foley

Charles Andrew “Toad” Foley, 92, of Valley Falls, KS, passed away Thursday, November 17, 2022 at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka. He was born June 29, 1930 in St. Joseph, MO, the son of Paul C. and Mary Alice (Owens) Foley.

He graduated from Hiawatha High School in 1948. Charles proudly served in the United States Marine Corps; enlisting in 1951; he served as Sergeant in tanks in Korea. Charles received the Purple Heart Medal. He was a rural mail carrier in Valley Falls, Lawrence and Nortonville for over 40 years. He was also a farmer.

Charles was a member of the Coal Creek Community, a member of the Coal Creek United Methodist Church, MO Brittany Club, AKC Kennel Club and a charter member of Kaw Valley Shoot to Retrieve Club. He was a certified judge for the AKC and Shoot to Retrieve trails. Charles was a life member of Grahem-Herbers VFW Post 3084 and DAV (Disabled American Veterans).

He married June Kirkham on November 3, 1957 at the Coal Creek United Methodist Church. They celebrated over 65 years of marriage.

Survivors include his wife, June of the home; 2 daughters, Janet (Roger) of Georgia, and Mary Foley (Bill Williams) of Great Bend, KS; sister, Ida Taliaferro of Effingham, KS; 3 grandchildren, Shane Evans (Brittany) of Valley Falls, Angie Evans of Valley Falls, KS and Tyler Stohl of Georgia; and 5 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Mary Foley; 2 brothers, Paul and Harold Foley; and a son, David Foley.

Memorial Service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Inurnment with Military Honors by Grahem-Herbers VFW Post 3084 will follow at the Valley Falls Cemetery.
