Lela Katherine Campfield, 90, of Centralia, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at the Eastridge Nursing Facility, where she resided.

Lela was born on July 13, 1931 in Corning, Kansas the daughter of Harry and Mildred (Mohringer) Fowler. She was married to Harold “Dick” Eugene Campfield on February 18, 1951. They made their home in the Centralia area. They were blessed with three children, Forrest, Morris, and Mark.

Lela graduated from Centralia High School in 1949. She was remembered fondly by many during the time she owned and operated the D & L Drive-In in Centralia. Lela poured love into everything she made and took great pride in the fact that she made the best doughnuts around. Lela also worked part time as the Postmaster Relief in the Centralia Post Office for 20 years before retirement.

Lela was driven by love of the Centralia Community and enjoyed her involvement in the Centralia Methodist Church, the Centralia Cemetery Board, the Centralia Boosters, the Eastern Star, and numerous organizations. She was always willing to lend a hand for the good of the community. She and Dick enjoyed lifelong friends and were known for their love of laughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dick; son, Forrest Campfield; and two brothers, Robert Fowler and Ralph Fowler.

Lela is survived by her two sons, Morris and his wife, Connie, of Lincoln, Nebraska and Mark and his wife, Ruth, of Manhattan, Kansas; five grandchildren, Todd Campfield of Lincoln, Nebraska, April Campfield of Austin, Texas, Kelsey (Dan) Halverson of Lincoln, Nebraska, Garrett (Lisa) Campfield of Rockwall, Texas, and Grant (Markie) Campfield of Carrollton, Texas; and four great-grandchildren, Claire Halverson, Jack Halverson, Cora Campfield, and Theodore Campfield. She will also be remembered by her beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Centralia Community Church-West. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to service time at the church. The interment will be made in the Centralia Cemetery. Lela will lie in state on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Popkess Memorial Chapel.
