Clarence Pollock

Clarence Warren Pollock, age 107, of Powhattan KS, passed to God’s Heavenly Kingdom on July 30, 2021, at his home surrounded by family.   He was born March 10, 1914 in Tingley, Iowa, son of Rev. Clarence Amander and Alida May Belle (Warren) Pollock.  He was a graduate of Stafford, KS High School (1931) and Sterling College (1936).  He also studied later at Kansas State, Emporia State, and Kansas University.

Clarence taught math in Antrim, Kansas for two years. He married Myrtle Elizabeth Richards on December 29, 1938, in the Topeka home of her parents, William and Grace (Kean) Richards.  They were married by Clarence’s father, and settled in Powhattan on December 31, 1938.  Clarence started teaching at Powhattan High School on January 2, 1939 and continued for 40 ½ years until the end of the 1978-79 school year.  He combined his teaching with farming in the early 1950’s.  Clarence and Myrtle were married for 61 years, until she passed away on September 27, 2001.

Clarence served on the Kickapoo Housing Authority, Powhattan Fire Department, NEK-CAP, Brown County Developmental Services, and other organizations.  He was a Methodist Conference member, and an active Gideon.  He kept score for Powhattan HS basketball games and moved the down marker for football games.  He was a Scout Master, Sunday School Teacher, Church Youth Leader and Foster Parent.

Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, wife Myrtle, brother Robert, sisters Margaret Palmer, Elizabeth Eurich, and Esther Pollock as well as, great grandchild William Allen Pollock.

He is survived by his 5 children: Jim (Ada Smith) of Hudson, OH; William (Sharilyn Jahnke) of Powhattan, KS; Susan (Tom) Gibb of Colorado Springs, CO; Elizabeth Pollock of St. Peters, MO; and David Pollock of Hiawatha, KS. He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren: Xela (William) Batchelder, Benjamin (Stacy) Pollock, Sarah (Jody) Fox, Jeremy (Rachel) Pollock, Jonathan (Kayla) Pollock, Luke (Camille) Pollock, Noah Pollock, Rachel (Jarod) Rhea, Rebekah (Jefferson) Black, Daniel Gibb, and Michael (Melanie) Gibb.  He is also survived by his 37 great grandchildren: Felicia, Emily, Camryn, Aiden, Ryan, Laura, Jordan, Kaytee, Ellie, Eilidh, Evan, Lauren, Alexandria, Lola, Esther (Sophie), Celia, Peyton, Benjamin, Gavin, Bodine, Caelan, Samuel, Jonathan, Danielle, William, James, Levi, Xavier, Maria, Esther, Seth, Frankie, Leah, Kyle, Gideon, Hope, and Grace.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Gideon’s International, or Sterling College, all of which may be sent in care of the Chapel Oak Funeral Home of Hiawatha.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 a.m. Tuesday, where the family will meet that evening from 6 until 8.

A celebration of eternal life is planned for 10:30 Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at Powhattan United Methodist Church, with burial to follow at Powhattan Cemetery.
