Bernard " Bunny" Darveaux, Sr.

Bernard Joseph “Bunny” Darveaux, Sr., 90, of Holton, KS passed away Saturday, July 17, 2021 at KU Med Center in Kansas City. He was born March 2, 1931 in Rulo, Nebraska, the son of Peter Bernard and Mary Augusta Majerus Darveaux. He attended Falls City High School in Nebraska.

Bernard worked many different places in the construction industry in addition to farming. He had worked for a contractor out of Florida, helping build among other things, Valley Falls School, Jackson Heights Missel Base, White Lakes Mall in Topeka, the Rulo bridge and Gage Park Swimming Pool. Bernard owned and operated Darveaux Construction Company for many years and buried telephone cable for Continental, United, Bell, Sprint and Rainbow Telephone companies.

He was a former member of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Holton and was a current member of St Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Valley Falls, KS and the Knights of Columbus.

Bernard was married to Rita Ann Keolzer November 28, 1950 in Falls City, Nebraska. She survives of the home. He is also survived by his children; Gerald J. Darveaux (Lori) of Valley Falls, KS, Cindy A. Darveaux of Nortonville, KS, Bill J. Darveaux (Terri) of Holton, KS, Cathryn A. Lauer (Andrew John) of Meriden, KS and Bernard J. “B.J.” Darveaux, JR (Kristina) of Ozawkie, KS; his sisters, Mary G. Terry of Meriden, KS, Barbara Schuetz of Hiawatha, KS and Joyce A. Darveaux of Loveland, CO; his brothers, Peter Darveaux (Norene) of Independence, MO, Michael Darveaux (Barbara) of Chicago, IL and Raphael Darveaux (Sharon) of Falls City, NE; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sons, Glenn J. and Darrell J. Darveaux; his sister, Rita Metzner; his brothers, Gerard J., Raymond and Norbert Darveaux and his grandson, Tyler Darveaux.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 26, 2021 at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Valley Falls. A Rosary will be recited at 9:00 a.m. Monday at the church. Inurnment will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Valley Falls. There will be a book available to sign at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls or in Holton.
