Shelley Lowe

Shelley Lowe, 49, went home to be with the Lord and other loved ones on July 15, 2021, with her family members by her side.

Shelley was born on October 5, 1971 in Hiawatha, KS the daughter of Kenneth Speer and Shirley Smith Speer. She attended Primary school in Muscotah, Kansas and High School in Effingham, KS. She went to Highland Community College. She was united in marriage to Roy Lowe on February 14, 1991.

 A well - loved woman, Shelley enjoyed meeting new people.  To Shelley, a stranger was simply a friend she hadn’t met.  She had a heart of gold.  Shelley was a very selfless person as she would help anyone that was in need.  She never thought of herself and was always caring for others.  Anyone that knew her, knew what true friendship and love was and felt like. She was a true hero to her family and friends and was always strong when you couldn’t be. No matter what, she loved you unconditionally, even after a fight. She always knew what to say whether you wanted to hear it or not. 

She held several different jobs throughout the years; however, her most favorite was taking care of her grandbabies.  Her hobbies included fishing, boating, spending time at the lake with family, laughing and having a good time with everybody (Queen of practical jokes).  She volunteered with several different organizations including Lowe’s Fizzy Fun (Ring Bomb), Bags of Hope, Horton United Methodist VBS and youth, Trunk or Treat for the children, Girl Scouts, volunteered at the schools that her children attended and several charity events and craft fairs.  

Preceded in death is her grandparents Willis (RuthAnne) Speer and Roy (Donna) Smith, Uncle Sidney Smith, Arlin (Tex) Tawzer, Dale Ruhnke, Aunts Carolyn Blanton, Barbara Blanton, Betty Anne Tawzer, Eileen Tawzer, Janet Christie, Marilyn Oaks, and Shirley Swendson.  

She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Roy Lowe,  Parents, Kenneth (Shirley) Speer,  2 daughters, Donna (Isaac) Bohnenkemper,  Heather (Cody) Carson, and son Kenneth Lowe, sisters, Sherrie (Matt) Thummel, Marcia (Curtis) Speer, and Sonya (Rodney) Latzke, four grandchildren, Liam, Taytum, Cash, and Ruger, several nieces and nephews, 1 great niece, 2 great nephews, numerous “adopted” children and considered all of her friends family. God Has Taken his Angel home.

The family will greet friends on Monday, July 19, 2021 from 5:00 to 6:30 P.M. at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas. The funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at the United Methodist Church in Horton, Kansas. Burial will follow at the Muscotah Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the Shelley Lowe memorial fund to be designated later and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
