Opal Fritz, 98, of Humboldt, NE, passed away October 6, 2020 at Humboldt. She was born April 21, 1922 at Humboldt to Henry and Alma (Brown) Herr.

She married Wilbert A. Fritz on January 11, 1948 at Humboldt. He passed away July 18, 1970.

Opal lived in rural Humboldt and moved into Humboldt in 1941. She attended Northwest Star District 10 School and Bratton Union Consolidated School. She then attended beauty school and had a beauty shop in Humboldt with her sister, Neloma. She also worked as a beautician in Falls City from 1962 until 1973. After her husband’s death she moved back to Humboldt and became a dog breeder. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church at Humboldt. She was active in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, member of the choir, Concordia Guild and Altar Guild. She was a volunteer at Colonial Acres Nursing Home and was an avid seamstress and quilter.

Opal is survived by her children: Larry and his wife Patricia of Lincoln, NE, Marlee Portrey and her husband David of Wallace, ID, Lynn of Milford, NE, Deborah Phillips and her husband Tom of Leavenworth, KS, grandchildren, Michelle Hannon and her husband Donovan of Wichita, KS, Christopher Phillips and his wife Mysty of Bonner Springs, KS, Brandon Portrey of Phoenix, Alyssa Portrey of Silverton, ID and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, seven brothers, two sisters and a granddaughter, Cindy.

Her funeral will will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at 10:00 AM at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church with Reverend Tim Llewellyn officiating. Interment will be in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Open viewing will begin on Thursday afternoon until 7:00 PM and on Friday from 9:00 AM until 8:00 PM at Dorr and Clark Funeral Home.
