Violet Marie (Blackburn) Martin, 91, of Holton, KS passed away Friday, August 14, 2020 at Vintage Park in Holton, KS. She was born September 15, 1928 in Sabetha, KS the daughter of Ben and Irene (Bowron) Fletchell. She graduated from Sabetha High School.

On November 27, 1947, Violet was united in marriage Lloyd Blackburn in Sabetha, KS. They shared 22 years of marriage before Lloyd passed away April 6, 1969.

She later married Ron Martin on November 5, 1978. They spent over 42 happy years on their farm south of Holton.

Violet worked for over 20 years as the bookkeeper for the Jackson Farmer’s CO-OP. She also helped her husband Lloyd who owned and operated Blackburn Plumbing, Heating, and Electric.

Violet sewed all her own clothes, cross-stitched, jigsaw puzzles, knitting, watching birds, and had several Martin Bird Houses. She was an excellent cook, and loved cooking for her family.

She was a member of the Wetmore American Legion Auxiliary Post 282.

Survivors include her husband Ron; 2 sons, James K. Blackburn (Diane) of Parsons, KS and Gary D. Blackburn (Cynthia) of Topeka, KS; 5 step-children, Judy Hinman (Wade) of Mayetta, KS, Chuck Martin of Topeka, Lanna Kellnhofer (Bill) of Lawrence, KS, Belinda Hopkins (Mel) of Georgia; Debbie Collins of Hoyt, KS; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Graveside Services will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 22, 2020 at the Holton Cemetery. Violet will lie in state at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton, beginning Wednesday, August 19, 2020.
