William Alan Mercer, 75, of Horton, Kansas, passed away on March 12, 2020 at his home, in Horton, Kansas.

He was born on March 28, 1944 in Alliance, Ohio, the son of William J. and Mary Lou Silliman Mercer. Bill graduated from Marlington High School in Alliance, Ohio. After high school, he served in the U.S. Air Force as a munitions technician for 11 years during the Vietnam Era. He then enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy on board the USS Pratt Destroyer as a machinist for 9 years before retiring. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Horton, Kansas. On July 4, 1998 he married Martha Todd in Sedalia, Missouri.

Survivors include his wife, Marty Mercer of the home; daughter, Milissa Mercer of Cheyenne, Wyoming; step daughter, JoAnn Jenkins of Toledo, Ohio; two step sons, Allen Jenkins of Sedalia, Missouri and Aaron Jenkins of Hiawatha, Kansas; sister, Marianne Mercer of Dodge City, Kansas; three brothers, David Mercer of Wichita, Kansas, Dean Mercer of Horton, Kansas and Jerry Mercer of Eudora, Kansas; seven grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Tom Mercer.

Memorial services will be at the United Methodist Church in Horton, Kansas at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, March 20, 2020 where the family will greet friends from 10:00 A.M. until service time. Memorials may be sent to the Bill Mercer memorial fund to be designated later and may be sent in care of the mortuary. Inurnment will be at 12:30 on Monday, March 23, 2020 at the VA National Cemetery in Leavenworth, Kansas. A special message may be sent to the family at www.dishon-maple-chaney.com
