Jon M. Fink

Jon M. Fink was born to John R. and Doris (Townsend) Fink on September 20, 1935 in Tecumseh, Nebraska.  He spent his early years on a rural Elk Creek farm.  His parents relocated to Seattle, WA for a few years while they worked in an aircraft factory during the war and then returned to Nebraska where Jon spent the remainder of his youth living in Pawnee City until starting college. 

Jon graduated from Pawnee City High School, attended K-State for one year and then transferred to the University of Nebraska, Lincoln where he received his degree in Vocational Agriculture.  Jon was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon, serving as President of the Fraternity his senior year. 

He was united in marriage to Joan Rinne on February 1, 1959 at the Salem United Christ of Christ, rural Steinauer, Nebraska.

Jon served his country in the U.S. Army as a First Lieutenant Helicopter Pilot for the Red 1, First Division Army at Fort Riley, KS.   After serving in the military, Jon returned to Tecumseh where he owned and operated the sale barn and Tecumseh Livestock Market for approximately 29 years.  He was actively engaged in livestock production and agriculture throughout his lifetime.  Jon received the Outstanding Grassland Manager from the Nemaha Natural Resources District, Outstanding Grassland Award for Farmers and Ranchers and Soil and Water Conservation Steward of Nebraska Award. 

Jon was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church, 60-year member of Pawnee Lodge # 23 A.F. & A.M. and 60-year member of the Tecumseh American Legion Post # 2.  Jon’s interests and loves were as a cattleman, grass and soil conservation, gardening, Husker Football, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, socializing with friends, traveling with his wife Joan, and most of all—spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were very dear to him. 

He passed away at his home in Tecumseh, Nebraska on Monday, January 27, 2020 at the age of 84 years. 

Jon is survived by his wife loving wife Joan, sons, Jon David “J.D.” Fink and wife Tami of Elkhorn and Jeffery “Jeff” Fink and wife Jana of Humboldt, grandchildren, Jen Sinclair and husband Ross, Amy Kealy and husband Tom, Emily, Jon, Ben and Seth Fink, Jake Fink and wife Taylor and Jena and Jackalyn Fink, great-grandchildren, Clay and Mack Kealy and Calvin and Sam Sinclair and Joleen Fink, sister-in-law Doris Naaf and husband Jerry of Boise, ID, other relatives and many friends. 

Jon was preceded in death by parents, John “Jack” and Doris Fink, parents-in-law, Leonard and Belva “Sue” Rinne and sister-in-law, Judith Rinne. 

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 31, 2020 at the United Methodist Church in Tecumseh, Nebraska with Rev. Rob Clark and Rev. Ken Tubbesing officiating.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m., Thursday, January 30, 2020 at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska.

Memorials may go to the United Methodist Church or the Johnson County Historical Society. 

Interment will be in the Tecumseh Cemetery, Tecumseh, Nebraska with full military honors by the National Guard Funeral Honors Team and Tecumseh VFW Post #8221 and American Legion Post #2.
