Erma DeBuhr

Erma Emma Marie (Schlange) DeBuhr, one of three children of William and Emma (Bergmann) Schlange, was born on October 30, 1924 on the family farm south of Auburn.  Erma was baptized on November 30, 1924 by Rev. Frank.  She was confirmed April 2, 1939 by Rev. Fred Henkel and remained a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.  Her confirmation verse was John 3:16. Erma attended Cochran rural School through the 8th grade.  She then attended Auburn High School, graduating in 1941.  After high school, she remained on the family farm to learn the art of homemaking, sewing, quilting and helping her parents on the farm.

On May 8, 1947, Erma was united in marriage to Arnold DeBuhr by Rev. Henkel.  They established their home on the farm she grew up on.  Six children were born to this union.  In addition to caring for her family, she was an avid gardener and maintained an orchard.  Erma cared for a large flock of chickens and delivered their eggs in Auburn for many years.  Many people knew her as the “Egg Lady”.  In 1985, they retired to a home in Auburn.  Erma was an active member of Dorcas Circle and was funeral lunch co-chairman for 16 years.  She also made or helped make quilts for World Relief.  For a number of years, she was a volunteer member at the Nemaha County Hospital.  In later years, Erma mended at the Good Samaritan Center.  In addition, she was a member of the Golden Rule Extension Club and the Hospital Auxiliary.

Erma passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2020, at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Auburn, Nebraska having reached the earthly age of ninety-five years, two months, and nineteen days.  She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Emalie on October 16, 1964, husband Arnold on October 16, 1997, brothers Julius and Ernest Schlange and great-grandson Blaine Arnold DeBuhr.

Erma will be deeply missed by her surviving children: Allen DeBuhr of Oakridge, OR; Jolene Wild and husband Lynn of Kansas City, KS; Mark DeBuhr and wife Judy, Linn DeBuhr and wife Beverly both of Auburn, Aaron DeBuhr of Ballarat, Australia, ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 24, 2020, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Auburn, Nebraska with Pastor Ken Miller officiating.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. on Thursday, January 23, 2020, at The Hall Funeral Chapel in Auburn.  Family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m.
