Sandra Kay “Sandy” Watkins, 71, of Horton, died shortly after arrival Saturday morning, November 30, 2019, at the Hiawatha Community Hospital.

She was born September 13, 1948, in Kansas City, Kansas, one of three daughters born to James Alfred and Hazel May Pollock Wilson and had lived in the Kansas City area most of her life where she grew up, attended school, later graduated Turner High School. Sandy lived in the Shawnee Mission/Olathe/Leavenworth areas before moving to Horton to make her home about 20 years ago. She married Clarence Asher who served his country during the Vietnam Conflict. They were blessed with children Holly and Jeff before they divorced. She later married Rodney Watkins June 27, 1975 in Wyandotte County before he preceded her in death February 28, 2006. While living in Kansas City, she worked for American Beauty pasta factory in the Fairfax District for 20 years. After moving to Horton, she worked for Gold Star, the mop factory west of Atchison nearly 18 years, retiring in her late 50’s.

Survivors include her daughter Holly Davidson (Jeff) of Columbia, MO; two sisters: Barbara Ziles of Olathe, Debra Gibb of Hiawatha, three grandchildren: Tiffany Davidson, Crystal Davidson, and Austin Asher; two great-grandchildren Grace and Alexandria Asher. Her caregivers and niece/nephew is Lori Neill (Scot) with whom they made their home her.

Sandy was also preceded in death by her parents; son Jeffrey James Asher.

The family will receive friends at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha from 2 until 3:30 Thursday afternoon, December 5.
