Joan Ann Skillett, 79, of Centralia, KS passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka, KS.

Joan was born August 5, 1940 in Axtell, Kansas the daughter of August and Helen (Matson) Barnes. She attended Vermillion schools ad graduated from Vermillion High School in 1958. Joan was united in marriage to Darwin Skillett on August 30, 1958. To this union five boys were born. She worked for the Centralia Telephone Company for several years and then stayed at home to care for her family. Joan and Darwin started Skillett Red-E-Mix in Centralia, Kansas where she was the office manager.

Joan was active in the Centralia Methodist Church and sang at many weddings and funerals. She was a member of the Eastern Star, a Cub Scout Master, and was a second mother for many kids in the Centralia Community.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Doug Skillett in 2000; and a brother-in-law, Kale Gudenkauf.

Survivors include her husband, Darwin Skillett of the home; four sons, Greg (Sarah) Skillett of Lenexa, KS, Gary (Karen) Skillett of Shawnee, KS, Darwin “Bub” Skillett of Independence, KS, and Dennis Skillett of Centralia, KS; her sister, Joyce Gudenkauf of Junction City, KS; 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 2, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at the Centralia Community Church-West. Inurnment will be held at a later date at the Centralia Cemetery. The family invites friends to a reception at the church after the service.
