Dolores Bell (Karas) Sochor

Dolores Bell (Karas) Sochor, 92, formerly of Table Rock, Nebraska was born on April 22, 1927 to Edd and Jessie (Hana) Karas at their home in Table Rock.  She grew up in the Table Rock community and attended Table Rock Public School District #33, graduating salutatorian of her class of 1945 with a normal training certificate to teach in rural schools.  From 1944-48 she lived with her parents on a farm north of Barneston, NE and taught rural school at Gage Co. District #109.  Dolores graduated from Midwest School of Cosmetology in Lincoln in 1948.  She was employed as a cosmetologist in Wymore, Table Rock and Pawnee City while maintaining her state license through 1996.

At an early age in 1932, Dolores became active in music.  Along with her sister, Donna, they were known as the Karas Sisters, entertaining at a variety of programs by playing guitar, accordion duets, singing, and tap dancing.  Often their father accompanied them on the accordion.  They entertained at the annual State Farmers Union Conventions in Omaha from 1934-1938.  They were proud of their Czech heritage and sang the Czech songs.  They took part in the music of the church singing for many funerals.  Dolores started playing drums or piano with dance bands while still in high school.  She liked to transpose music and enjoyed her piano students.  On October 5, 1949, Dolores was united in marriage to her classmate Joseph Sochor at the home of her parents in Table Rock.  To this union two children, David and Diane, were born.  The couple established their home on the old Sochor farm northeast of Table Rock.  She assisted in the work of the grain-dairy farm and in their Electric shop.  The couple retired from the farm and moved into town in August of 1990.

Dolores received her 50-year membership emblem with WFLA in 1991 and was a charter member of the Table Rock Historical Society.  She was baptized and confirmed in July of 1978 in the Table Rock United Methodist Church.  Dolores attended bible study and UMC Women’s group.  In 2016, a reception was held by the Table Rock United Methodist Church in recognition and appreciation of her 38 years of service as church pianist.  Dolores passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2019, at the St. Francis Hospital in Grand Island, Nebraska having reached the earthly age of ninety-two years, five months and twenty-three days.  She was preceded in death by her husband Joe, her parents, parents-in-law Louie and Emma Sochor, a sister Donna (Jesse) Nemechek and sister-in-law Mary Ann (C. Duane) Workman.

Dolores is survived by her son David (Susie) Sochor of Doniphan, daughter Diane (Darrell) Lewis of Lincoln; grandchildren: Joal (Jordan) Sochor of Doniphan, RanDee (Gerald) Krueger of Doniphan, Dean Lewis of Lincoln; great-grandchildren: Josiah, Joah, Jagur and Joalie Sochor of Doniphan, Hadley, Drake and Piper Krueger of Doniphan; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2019, at the United Methodist Church in Table Rock, Nebraska with Pastor Dorothy Smith officiating.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. on Friday, October 18, 2019, at the United Methodist Church in Table Rock, Nebraska.  Family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. at the church.

Interment will be at the Table Rock Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to family’s choice with a later designation.
