Janice K. Nichols “Jan” Wanlass, 71, of Highland, died unexpectedly Tuesday, August 20, 2019, at her home.

She was born March 29, 1948, at the Horton Community Hospital, one of four daughters born to Jake Rufus and Viola Geneva VanDonge Nichols. Jan grew up in the Soldier/Circleville communities where she attended schools prior to graduating from Circleville High School with the class of 1966. After marriage, the union was blessed with two sons Mick and Donovan. The family lived in Topeka prior to moving to Utah where she worked as a court clerk. In 1991, she returned to northeast Kansas, settling in Highland to be near two of her sisters where she worked as a court clerk for Doniphan County in Troy, before retiring at age 65.

Jan was a member of the Soldier Christian Church. Upon settling in Highland, she attended the Highland Christian Church.

Survivors include her two sons: Mick Wanlass of Tooele, Utah, Donovan Wanlass (Shalauna) of Eagle Mountain, Utah, three sisters: Beverly Evans, Judy Allen (Marty), both of Highland, Vickie Root (Rod) of Topeka, 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Services are planned for 11 a.m. Monday, August 26, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Highland, with Pastors Jerry Petering and Tom Carter officiating. Graveside services are planned for 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Soldier Cemetery.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Highland Senior Citizens Center, sent in care of the funeral home, PO Box 33, 66035.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 12 Noon until 6 p.m. Sunday. The family will meet one hour prior to services.
