Robert " Dallas" Bowhay

Robert "Dallas " Bowhay was born on July 18, 1931 on the family farm in rural Pawnee County, to Clyde and Helen (Hart) Bowhay.  Dallas passed away on Friday, July 26, 2019 at the age of 88, at Pawnee Community Memorial Hospital.  He attended country school in rural Pawnee County and graduated from Barneston High School in 1949. He then attended Tarkio College in Tarkio, Missouri for two years where he played football.

In 1952, Dallas enlisted in the US Army and was stationed at Killeen Base, Texas.  On September 5, 1953 he married Betty Finch and they made their home in Texas until Dallas was honorably discharged in 1954.  They then moved to Gage County, Nebraska where Dallas drove a truck for a short time before purchasing and operating a gas station/tire repair shop in Summerfield, Kansas.  After selling the station he custom harvested for several years and the early 1960's started his trucking business, Bowhay Truck Line, Inc, which is still in operation today.  Throughout the years Dallas also farmed and raised livestock.  An active member of his community, Dallas also served as Mayor of Summerfield for many years and the Commander of the Liberty Legion Post 346 for more than 25 years and was instrumental in starting the first Shrimp Feed in Liberty.

Dallas was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Helen Bowhay, brother Burdette Bowhay, sister Beverly Heidbrink, brother-law Dennis Heidbrink, grandsons Joshua Bowhay, Seth Gee, Colton Bowhay, great granddaughter Taylor Bowhay, and in-laws Tillman and Ann Finch.

Dallas is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty, children Shery Rohmeyer (Don), Terri Gee (Kevin Graf), Todd Bowhay (Julie), 5 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Services will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at the American Legion, Post 346, Liberty, Nebraska with Pastor John Palmquist officiating. Casual attire is requested. Visitation on Tuesday, July 30, 2019 9:00 am to 8:00 p.m., with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m. at Wherry Mortuary, 919 G Street, Pawnee City, NE.  Inurnment at a later time at the Liberty Cemetery, NE.  Military Honors provided by American Legion Post #345 of Liberty, Nebraska and the Nebraska Army National Guard Military Honors.  Memorials to family choice.  Online condolence may be left at www.wherrymortuary.com
