Eugene F. Kramer, 87, of Leavenworth, died, Sunday, May 12, 2019. On the morning of Oct. 3, 1931, just as the first rays of sun appear in the east, the sound of a newborn baby could be heard. Herbert and Laura (Wagner) Kramer were blessed with a baby boy.

He was given the name Eugene Francis Kramer, two weeks later he was baptized into the Catholic faith and remained an avid Catholic his entire life. At the age of 6, he started school at a little country school.

Eugene graduated from Easton Rural High School.

As a young boy, Eugene was always interested in the farm. He grew up on the farm that was his grandfather Wagner’s and remained in the same community his entire life. In his youth, Eugene joined 4-H and was a very active member, winning many awards for his crops and livestock at the county fair. He was on a judging team for four years, was selected as a member of “Who’s Who” and a state winner in Soil Conservation

Later Eugene was a junior leader and an adult 4-H leader where he served on the Leavenworth County extension council for eight years as secretary and treasurer.

He was a member of the Catholic Church, served on the Parish Council Cemetery Committee, Lector and Lay Minister.

Eugene was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2885 for over 50 years and served in various offices. He was a member of the LV County Farm Bureau and served eight years on the board. He was also a member of the Mid American Association of Conservation District and received an outstanding conservation award for his work. Eugene was part of the Leavenworth County Beef Association and served on its board for eight years. He loved his cattle and was always ready to show them.

He served four years on the USD #449 school board, was a member of the Easton Lions Club where he held various offices and was the chairman in 1966.

Eugene was a member of the Hazelnut Crackers square dance club and Eagles Lodge.

He was very active in soil conservation work, speaking at the first conservation Conference in Lincoln, Neb. in 1972. Later Eugene worked as an Ag. consultant for five years. In 1980, he was appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture to help conduct land use seminars in the four state area of Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa and Missouri. He worked as a field man in soil work for Agri-Marketing and the Phoenix Co. He was a seed salesman for Cargill, Golden Harvest and Midland for many years and was in the Vigortone feed business for almost 30 years.

On April 11, 1959, Eugene married Juanita Noll. They were the parents of two children, Anthony B. and Peggy R.

After his first marriage, he married Eileen Wilk. She survives at the home. He became the stepfather of Eileen’s three children, Raymond, Kenneth and Theresa. Eugene is survived by his two children, his three step-children, 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Eugene was a kind and loving person, he loved to give to others in many ways especially at Christmas time.

Visitation beginning with the rosary will be from 6 to 8 p.m. p.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, at St. Joseph Church, with Rev. David McEvoy, O.Carm. and Rev. Greggory Houck, O.Carm. as co-celebrants. Burial will follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Lawrence Cemetery or The Activities Fund for FW Houston in Winchester, Kan.
