June Clarine Coleman, 86, of Valley Falls, formerly of Holton, died Friday, April 26, 2019, at Midland Care at Linnwood Park Home Plus at Valley Falls.

She was born Dec. 5, 1932, at Valley Falls, the daughter of John Clarence and Noma Merle Lewis Matthews. She graduated from Valley Falls High School in 1950.
When she was 60 yrs old, she received her LPN degree from Kaw Valley Technical School in Topeka.

Clarine worked alongside her husband, Ron, first at Coleman’s IGA Foodliner at Valley Falls, and then at Ron’s United Super grocery store at Holton. She managed the bakery and cake decoration department. After becoming a nurse, she worked at the Holton Hospital and also as a clinic nurse for Dr. Joel Hutchins and Dr. Carlos Chavez.

She was a member of the Vallerian Study Club in Valley Falls, and was a 50 yr member of PEO Sisterhood with Chapter DK in Valley Falls and Chapter P in Holton. She belonged to Pilot Club and was a member of the First United Methodist Church, both in Holton. She had served as treasurer of the Kendall Memorial Swimming Pool Fund Raising Committee in Valley Falls.

Clarine married Ronald E. Coleman, Oct. 30, 1950, at Hot Springs, Ark. He died Oct. 30, 2001.

Survivors include two sons, Gary (Jayne) Coleman, Valley Falls, and Scott (Susie) Coleman, Topeka; a daughter, Gail (Dr. Darrell) Carder, Perry; two sisters, Mary Lou Irwin and Caroline Kern, both of Topeka; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lisa; her brother, Dr. Joseph Matthews; and her sister, Noma Eisler.

The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 30, 2019, at Mercer Funeral Home in Valley Falls. Burial will follow at the Valley Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday.
