Raymond Albert Clem, 85, of Atchison, Kansas passed away Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at the University of Kansas Medical Center.

Mass of Christian burial will be Monday, January 21, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Benedict’s Church with Rev. Jeremy Heppler, OSB as celebrant. Interment with military honors will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.  Parish rosary will be recited on Sunday, Jan. 20th, at 2:00 p.m. at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with visitation to follow until 4:00 p.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Benedict’s Abbey or Mount St. Scholastica and may be left in care of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with whom care has been entrusted.  Online condolences may be shared at www.arensbergpruett.com.

Raymond was born on December 24, 1933 in Atchison, Kansas the son of Edgar R. and Minnie U. (Tull) Clem.  He attended Franklin Grade School and graduated from Atchison High School in 1953. He then attended Kansas University and later St. Benedict’s College and Atchison Vocational Technical School.

He and the former Julia Handke were united in marriage on June 15, 1957 at St. Benedict’s Church in Atchison. 

Ray was employed with Midwest Solvents in Atchison from 1959 until 1964 and then with Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in Topeka, Kansas until 1981. 

He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from March 23, 1954 until his honorable discharge on March 22, 1958, attaining the rank of Sergeant.

Ray was a member of St. Benedict Parish in Atchison where he served as a cup minister. He was also a member of the Fleming-Jackson-Seever Post #6 of the American Legion, Atchison Lions Club and was a former Scout Leader.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Julia Clem, of the couple’s home in Atchison; a daughter, Mary Lynn (Ross) Ray, Winchester, KS; a son, Michael W. (Deborah) Clem, Los Gatos, CA; two grandchildren, Andrew R. Clem, Matthew V. Clem; two step-grandchildren, Carl Ray and Jodi Davis; five step-great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two children, Cathleen Patricia Clem, Raymond Andrew Clem; siblings, Edna Clem, Ralph Clem, Mary Wilburn, Deloris Bonnel, Doris Regan, Edgar Clem, Robert Clem, Frank Clem and Rose Faught.
