Vivian Leona (McKee) Pfister, 92, passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at Medicalodge Jackson County. She was born January 23, 1926 near Fairview, KS the daughter of Nick and Dorothy (Bindel) McKee.

Vivian graduated from Powhattan High School in 1944. She was a candidate at the Hiawatha Halloween pageant.

Vivian married Gale Pfister at Hiawatha, KS on December 29, 1944. They celebrated over 73 years of marriage.

She had worked at Mayfield’s Grocery Store in Powhattan, worked for USD #336 as a cook at Central School, was a custodian at Denison State Bank and provided child care to several families. She considered all the kids as family. Vivian was also a homemaker and housewife. She lived in the Holton community since 1954.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gale Pfister on September 25, 2018; her parents; brother, Louie V. McKee and sister, Valora McKee Schmidt.

Survivors include her daughter, Geralin Jo Altenburg (Wayne) of Holton, KS; grandson, Darin Altenburg (Kristi) of Holton, KS; granddaughter, Kimberly J. Clark (Terry) of Holton, KS4 great-grandchildren, Taygen & Logan Altenburg and Xoe and Xavier Clark; 3 step-grandchildren, Katie, Dacey and Ryon Clark; step-great-great-granddaughter, Natali; sister, Cora Smith of Arlington, WA; 2 brothers, Calvin McKee (Juanita) of Hiawatha, KS, Keith McKee (JoAnne) of Salina, KS; 2 sister-in-laws Donna Bairow of Holton, Nelle Pfister or Falls City, NE and numerous nieces and nephews.

Vivian’s grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchild were very special to her. Including Chad and Cole Gerhardt.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 22, 2018 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Family will greet friends an hour before service time. Family suggests casual and Christmas attire. Burial will follow in the Holton Cemetery.
