Retired Implement Dealer Donnie G. Mauslein, of the Everest/Hiawatha communities, died Wednesday morning, November 7, 2018, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Hiawatha with his sister by his side. He was 91.

Donnie was born at Hiawatha, June 2, 1927, one of four children born to L.G. “Shorty” and Myrtle Mize Mauslein. He grew up on a farm north of Hiawatha where he attended LaGrange and Mt. Zion country schools prior to graduating from Hiawatha High School with the class of 1944. After high school, he worked for Cowan Implement, local John Deere dealer, received and assembling parts a few years prior to working as a salesman for Hutchison Implement in Everest until the mid 1960’s when the owner was killed in a car wreck. He managed the business for a few years before purchasing it. He and his wife Betty, operated the business until they retired in 1985. They moved to their lake home near Camdenton, MO in the mid 1990’s until moving back to Hiawatha. Donnie worked part time for Henry Brothers Case IH Dealer in Hiawatha, in the parts department, for a few years.

Donnie was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Hiawatha. Through the years, he attended the Christian Center in Hiawatha. Through the years, he was very active in BPOE #1741, Hiawatha Elks Lodge: was past Exalter Ruler, and served as District Deputy GER of Elks (2 terms 1969-70), and was instrumental in getting a new building in Hiawatha. He also was a member of Hiawatha Masonic Lodge #35, AF&AM; and Abdallah Shrine.

He married Betty Jones, January 25, 1947, at Seneca. She died December 24, 2011. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two daughters: Carol Ann Smith in February 12, 2009, a daughter in infancy.

Donnie is survived by two sisters: Betty McQueen (Jim) of Hiawatha, Karen Davenport of Canon City, CO; three grand-daughters: Robin Anderson of Hiawatha, Debbie Spaeth (Emil) of Ozawkie, KS, Heather Mast of Houston, TX; and great-grandson Andrew Howerton of Oregon state.

A Celebration of Donnie’s life is planned for 11 a.m. Monday, November 12, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha. Rick Souter will officiate. Masonic committal services will be conducted by Hiawatha Masonic Lodge. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 12 noon until 6 Sunday. The family will meet with friends a half hour prior to services.
