Edrie Thompson

Edrie M. Thompson, 85, of Holton, KS passed away Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Holton Community Hospital. She was born October 5, 1933 in the family home north of Holton, the daughter of Fred and Josephine (Sigmund) Dachenhausen.

Edrie graduated from Wetmore High School in 1951, then briefly worked for Santa Fe Railroad in Topeka.

She was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Holton where she served as Deacon for many years. She was currently a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Alpha Circle at the church. Edrie was a member of Jackson County Friends of Hospice since its inception in 1988. She was a dedicated volunteer and served as treasurer for many years. She was also a member of P.E.O. Chapter P in Holton.

Edrie married Arlyn “Max” Thompson on November 26, 1955 in Holton. Together, they raised three children and celebrated over 58 years of marriage.

She is survived by her son, Jerald Thompson of Kansas City, KS; her daughters, Julie Starr (Gary) of Grantville, KS and Lisa Orf (Tony) of Wichita, KS; her sisters, Doris Swart of Carmel, IN and Martha Heller of Newark, DE; her grandchildren, Michael and Aaron Starr, Emily Menefee (John) and Josephine Orf and her great-granddaughter, Makayla Menefee.

Edrie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Max on March 13, 2014 and her brother, Glenn Dachenhausen.

A Celebration of Edrie’s Life will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 15, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church in Holton. Family will greet friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday evening, November 14, 2018 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Inurnment will be in the Netawaka Cemetery at a later date.
