Deniece Marie “Namigapyea” Masqua, 60, of Horton, KS passed away Sunday, October 21, 2018 at her home. She was born April 8, 1958 in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of Sylvester and Geraldine L. (Shopteese) Masqua.

Deniece graduated from St. Paul’s High School in 1976 in Marty, SD. She earned her Associates Degree at Highland Community College and her Bachelor’s in accounting at Missouri Western.

She worked for Kickapoo Tribe of Kansas in finance and elections. Deniece was director of Child Support Enforcement, Gaming Commissioner and also Kickapoo Housing Board.

Deniece was a member of the Kickapoo Tribe of Kansas and active in community wide causes and events.

She married Jesse Kazena, He preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Tyrone A. Mendez of Horton, KS; 3 sisters, Lynia Eagle of Horton, KS, Lily Hall of Mayetta, KS and Gina Wahweotten of Mayetta, KS and 4 grandchildren, Cheyenne, Tehya, Sequouah and Montana.

She was preceded in death by her parents and 3 brothers, Darrell, Sylvester and Donald Masqua.

Drum Services will be Tuesday evening October 23, 2018 at the Kickapoo Community Building on the Kickapoo Reservation. Burial will be early Wednesday morning at Kennekuk Cemetery. To leave a special message for the family, please visit www.mercerfuneralhomes.com.
