Marvin Holt

Marvin Lee Holt, 67, was born on September 7, 1951, one of four children born to Leonard and Mary Rieger Holt.  He died surrounded by his family on October 18, 2018, at the Hiawatha Community Hospital.

Marvin grew up on a farm west of Highland.  He graduated from Highland High School and then attended Platte Technical School in St. Joseph, MO.  He worked at Wilde Tool Co. in Hiawatha and USD 415 School District for a short time.

Marvin married Linda Wikle at the Bellevue Church October 3, 1987.  They began their married life of 32 years, living in Hiawatha along with his stepdaughter Angela.

He continued his love of farming on the home place while working at the Kickapoo Golden Eagle Casino since 2001.  He attended Northridge Church in Sabetha where he was a member of the Congoit Sunday School class.

Marvin enjoyed collecting miniature John Deere tractors, painting with water colors in earlier years, and traveling to see historic places.  He was an avid reader of history and religious material.  He loved his Bible!  His favorite laptop buddy was “Aries” a Shih Tzu.

Marvin is survived by his wife Linda of the home, his stepdaughter Angela (Johnny) Longhurst of Lawrence, a sister Nancy (Al) Fuhrman of rural Severance, brother Mike (Susan) Holt of rural Highland; with many nieces, nephews, family and friends.

He was preceded by his parents; and an infant brother Charles.

A Celebration of Marvin’s life is planned for 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 23, at the Northridge Church in Sabetha.  Dr. Bill Simpson will officiate.  Interment will follow at the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha.

Friends may call at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha after 10 a.m. Monday.  The family will receive friends starting at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Church.
