Margie P. Emmerson, 96, of rural Hiawatha, died Thursday evening, September 27, 2018, at Vintage Park Assisted Living in Hiawatha, where she had been a resident for several years.

Margie was born in Fort Scott, Kansas, January 30, 1922, one of six children born to John and Myrtle McKee Hall.  She grew up in the Fort Scott and attended school there, graduating with the class of 1940.  She then attended Ft. Scott Community College where she met W. Hugh Emmerson, and married September 14, 1941.   They farmed and raised livestock several years near Ft. Scott before moving north of Hamlin in 1963.   She was the secretary for the Hiawatha High School for many years before retiring after 21 years of service.   After Hugh got sick, they moved into town and he died April 10, 2006

She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Hiawatha.
Margie was also preceded in death by four sisters and a brother.

Survivors include her two sons:  Dale Emmerson (Pamela) of Syracuse, Utah, Ron Emmerson (Mary) of Fort Collins, Colorado; six grandchildren:  Megan (Matt), Tere (Ruben), Michelle (Rodney),  Chelsea (Cody), Lacey (Tre), Jason (Ashley);  eleven great-grandchildren:  Treyton, Austin, Domanic, Zachary, Evan, Lilly, Kierra, Katie, Kiera, Isabel, and Emma.

A Celebration of Margie’s life is planned for 2 p.m. Monday, October 1, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha.  Pastor Andrew Finch will officiate.  Interment will follow at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha.

The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 12 noon until 7 Sunday evening.
