Amy Jean Smith, 95, of Muscotah, KS died on Sunday, September 2, 2018 at the Village Villa Nursing Home, in Nortonville, KS.

Amy was born on November 26, 1922, the daughter of Charlie and Katie Montgomery, Larkinburg, KS.  She attended grade school at the Star School near the family’s farm, graduated from ACCHS, formerly Effingham High School, in 1939, and attended summer school at the University of Kansas.

She received her Normal Teachers Training following high school and taught at the Star School for several years, as well at the Arrington Grade School.

She married Noble Spencer Smith on May 16, 1943.  He preceded her in death on November 5, 1998.  Amy and Noble raised their family on a farm near Arrington, KS, where she enjoyed gardening, sewing, attending community events, and church.  She was a member of the Larkinburg Christian Church where she taught Sunday school and played the piano for 26 years and later was active in the Muscotah United Church.

Survivors include her son, Dennis (Judy) Smith, Muscotah, KS; her daughter, Eileen Koutelas (Scott Courtney), Bradenton, FL; her sister, Erma Moore, Holton, KS; two grandsons, Brian (Shelley) Smith, Muscotah, KS; Kevin Smith, St. Louis, MO; two great grandsons, Luke and Lance Smith, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, two brothers, Howard and Noel Montgomery, and a sister, Dr. Lola Montgomery.

Funeral Services will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, September 6, 2018 at the Mercer Funeral Home, 1101 W 4th St., Holton, KS.  Burial will follow in the Larkinburg Cemetery.  A visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00 PM at the funeral home immediately prior to the service on September 6.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Avalon Hospice or the Topeka Rescue Mission c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O.
