Danny Hager

Danny Ray Hager, 52, of Barrigada, Guam was born December 6th, 1965 in Beatrice, Nebraska to Ronald and Dixie (Amos) Hager.  He grew up in Beatrice and as a teen enjoyed helping out at his parent’s café.  After the death of his father the family moved to Pawnee City where Danny graduated from Pawnee High School with the class of 1984.  Shortly after graduation he enlisted with the United States Navy and entered active service on October 10, 1984.  Danny proudly served 23 years on submarines and was honorably discharged on November 30, 2007. He retired at the rank of Senior chief petty officer and was described by his fellow Sailors as technically smart, tough as nails, clever way with words, huge heart and trusted shipmate.

Through his highly decorated naval career Danny received his most notable commendation when his submarine, the USS San Francisco, ran aground sustaining devastating damage. He was commended for his expertise in configuring the ballasts to surface the ship all the while he concealed that he had sustained a severe leg injury.

Danny was united in marriage to Rosie Hager and he cherished being a father to their daughter, Donatella.  Danny was a beloved husband, father, and big brother who will be forever in our hearts.

Danny passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on July 8, 2018 in Barrigada, Guam having reached the age of fifty-two years, seven months, and 2 days.  He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Ronald and Dixie Hager, his brother Darren Hager, and many beloved grandparents, aunts, and uncles.

Danny is survived by his loving wife Rosie Hager and daughter Donatella of Barrigada, Guam, his brother Darryl Hager of Lincoln, his sister DeAnna (Craig) Toupin and their son Caden of Lincoln, and his brother David Hager and his son Luca of Lincoln.

A Graveside Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at the Humboldt Cemetery with Pastor Howard Blecha officiating.  Full military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Naval Honor Guard.

Memorial contribution may be given to the family’s choice with a later designation.
