May E. Luster, 92, of Hiawatha, went to be with her Lord and Savior Friday morning, August 10, 2018, at Maple Heights Nursing Home where she had been a resident for a few years.

She was born at Sabetha, May 26, 1926, one of four children born to Art and Dora Fritch Hays and has lived in the northeast Kansas area nearly all of her life.  She grew up at Morrill where she attended school.  May worked as a waitress for nearly 30 years:  Connie’s Grill, Elks Lodge. for the Hartman’s Cottonwood, Maple Leaf, and finally Gus’ Restaurant.  She also was a caregiver to several of the elderly thru the years.

May was a long time member of the First Baptist Church in Hiawatha.  She enjoyed spending time in California, and her trips to Colorado and Texas.  She enjoyed doing embroidery, working  crossword puzzles, and completing the word find books.

She married Daniel Wetzel in 1942 before they divorced in 1968.  She later married Donald Luster in Marysville, Kansas, March of 1976.  He died in 1983.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings: George Fritch, Pearl Hanesworth, and Mary McGee.

Survivors include her children:  Linda Close (Phil) of Salina, Jim Wetzel of Morrill; two grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.  Her “Angel” was Cindy Eppens and faithful cousin was Mary Pierson.

Friends  may call at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home after 12 noon until 6 Sunday evening.

The family will meet with friends from 1:30 until 2:15 Monday at the funeral home, to go in procession to Morrill Cemetery for graveside services.  Ryan VanPeursem and Rich Lehmkuhl will officiate.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society, NEK Hospice, or First Baptist Church which may be sent in care of the funeral home, 124 S 7th St., 66434.
