Cecilia C. Kohake, 94, of Sabetha, Kansas, passed from this life to eternal home on Saturday morning, June 16, 2018 at Sabetha Community Hospital.

Cecilia was born on January 1, 1924 on a farm northwest of St. Benedict, Kansas to John F. and Theresa Olberding Haverkamp. She spent her early childhood years in the St. Benedict area. When she entered the fourth grade, the family moved to Fidelity, Kansas. She graduated from the 8th Grade from Fidelity Parochial Grade School and then attended St. Mary’s High School in St. Benedict. She moved to Topeka in 1920 to be a telephone operator; transferring to Sabetha where she worked until she got married.

Cecilia married Carl J. Kohake on March 31, 1959 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Benedict Kansas. They made their home in Sabetha where Carl was employed by Mid-America Dairy-men. Cecilia cleaned the Morrill State Bank in Sabetha for over 40 years and Char-Mae Beauty Salon for many years.

Cecilia was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sabetha, St. Ann’s Altar Society and the Sabetha V.F.W. Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband Carl J. Kohake on December 24, 1977; and three brothers, John Henry Haverkamp in 1926, Kenneth A. Haverkamp in 2006 and Lillis Haverkamp in 2012; and a sister, Angela Devillier on December 16, 2017.

Cecilia is survived by her son Donald Kohake of Sabetha, John Haverkamp of Seneca, Luella Curti of Seneca, John J. Haverkamp of Seneca and Henrietta Dressman of Baileyville.

Rosaries will be prayed at 2 &7 PM Monday, June 18th at Lauer Funeral Home in Seneca. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, June 19, 2018, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Benedict. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be given in Cecilia’s memory to the Sacred Heart Church in Sabetha, and sent in care of the family.
