Edwin " Claire" Olsen

Edwin "Claire" Olsen, 88, of Horton, Kansas, passed away on Monday, April 16, 2018 at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph, Missouri.

He was born on November 11, 1929 in Powhattan, Kansas, the son of Hans C. and Ruth Ross Olsen Jr.

Claire was a farmer and worked as a lineman with the Willis Telephone Company. He was a member of the Everest Zion Lutheran Church where he served on the church board and cemetery board. Claire served in the Army National Guard, on the Little Delaware Watershed board and was the crops superintendent for the Tri-County Fair for over 20 years.

He enjoyed showing corn at the Kansas State Fair, hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

On May 18, 1956 he married Carolyn Elizabeth Butt in Westboro, Missouri.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Olsen of the home, Horton, Kansas; daughter, Tina Lee Olsen-Gregory of Riverside, California; 4 sons, Steven Claire Olsen of McCallsburg, Iowa, Lelan Ray Olsen of Edwardsville, Illinois, Kevin Eric Olsen of Parumph, Nevada and Keith Craig Olsen of Horton, Kansas; brother, Robert C. Olsen of Indianapolis, Indiana and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a stillborn son, brother, Vernon Olsen and sister, Doris Eames.

The family will greet friends on Sunday afternoon from 4 to 6:00 P.M. at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas. Funeral services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, April 23, 2018 at the Zion Lutheran Church north of Everest, Kansas. Burial will follow at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery.
