Ruth Alene Ross, 98, of Horton, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at the Horton Community Hospital.

She was born on November 9, 1919 in Powhattan, Kansas the daughter of Hugh and Maude Ashley Loyd. After graduating with her nursing degree she served in the U.S. Navy. After her enlistment Ruth worked as a registered nurse at the Horton Community Hospital, retiring after working there for almost 50 years. She also was a homemaker and helped her husband on the family farm.

Ruth was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Horton Hospital Auxiliary and Powhattan VFW.

On February 28, 1950 she married Norman Ross in Everest, Kansas. He preceded her in death on November 18, 2006.

Survivors include at daughter, Sharon (Duane) Becker of Olathe, Kansas; two grandsons, Mark and David Becker and three great grandsons. She was also preceded in death by her parents, son and daughter in law, Kenneth and Sharee Ross, brother, Don Loyd and two sisters, Myrtle Kindig and Ina Phillips.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at the Zion Lutheran Church north of Everest, Kansas where the family will greet friends from 1:00 P.M. until services time. Burial will be at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church and may be sent in care of the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas.
