William J. Halda
Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton
Springhill, KS

William J. Halda, 72, of Springhill, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, March 29, 2018 at his home.

He was born on November 30, 1945 in Wichita, Kansas the son of Francis and Catherine Roths Halda. After graduating from Horton High School, Bill served in U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Era. After his enlistment he worked for several telephone companies including, AT & T, ICom, United Telephone, ConTel, Sprint, Embarq and retired from Century Link  as a planner.

On December 28, 1968 he married Mary Schuetz at the St. Leo's Catholic Church in Horton, Kansas.

Bill was a member of the American Legion in Cuba, Kansas and Knights of Columbus in Paola, Kansas.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, NASCAR racing and spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Mary Halda of the home, Springhill, Kansas; three daughters, Laurie Kerns of Humboldt, Kansas, Michele Wright of Linn Valley, Kansas and Stacie Halda of Gardner, Kansas; three brothers, Gerald Halda of Mound City, Missouri, Richard Halda of Solon, Ohio and Larry Halda of Chesapeake, Virginia; one sister, Shirley McClaskey of Virginia Beach, Virginia; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Anthony Halda.

A rosary will be recited on Tuesday evening at 6:30 P.M. at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas with visitation to follow until 8:00 P.M. The funeral mass will be at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at the St. Leo's Catholic Church in Horton, Kansas.

Burial with military graveside rites will follow at the St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery in Mercier, Kansas.
