Richard Pella

 Richard V. Pella was born to Martin and Hedwig "Hattie" (Goracke) Pella on March 31, 1925 at Tecumseh, Nebraska.  Richard grew up on the family farm with his parents, 2 brothers and one sister.  He attended country school and parochial school through the eighth grade.

  Richard served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army under General Patton from 199-1946 with the 89th Infantry.  After his service, Richard returned to the farm and began to farm.  Except for his time in the military, Richard resided in the same section his entire life.  

  He was united in marriage to Marian N. Fredell on February 23, 1949 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lincoln, Nebraska.  To this union two daughters were born, Betty and Diane.

  Richard was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He earned his 4th degree with the Knights of Columbus in Nebraska City.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Grand Knight -6750.  He was member of the Tecumseh VFW Post #8221, where he was the commander from 1968-1970, American Legion Post #2,  served as director of the NRD and on the ASCS committee.  In his spare time, Richard loved fishing, camping, woodworking, pitching horseshoes and playing pitch with friends.  

 Richard passed away at his home rural Tecumseh, Nebraska, Friday, March 23, 2018 at the age of 92 years, 11 months and 22 days.

  He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Marian, daughters, Betty Lind and husband Jon of Spring, TX and Diane Glantz of Lincoln, 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren 3 step-great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Ethelreda Pella of Tecumseh, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

 Richard was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, Jennifer Lind, sister, Leona Pella, brothers, Joe and Clem Pella and son-in-law, Addison Glantz.

  Mass of Christian Burial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at the St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tecumseh, Nebraska, with Father Craig Clinch officiating.

   Visitation will be at the Wherry Mortuary in Tecumseh, Nebraska Tuesday, March 27, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. at the church.

   Memorials may go to the Johnson County Avenue of Flags or St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

   Interment will be in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, St. Mary, Nebraska at 1:30 p.m. with full military rites by the US Army Funeral Honors Team and VFW Post #8221 and American Legion Post #2 of Tecumseh.
