Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home, Inc. 913-367-6403 Dorlene M. Blodig 1933 – 2018 Dorlene M. Blodig, 84, of Atchison, Kansas, died unexpectedly on Friday, February 23, 2018. Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Benedict’s Church with Fr. Jeremy Heppler, OSB as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A parish and Daughters of Isabella rosary will be recited on Tuesday, Feb. 27th, at 6:30 p.m. at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Benedict Parish or St. Benedict’s Abbey and may be left in care of the funeral home. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.arensbergpruett.com. Dorlene was born on September 17, 1933 the daughter of Daniel W. and Nellie J. (Lee) George in Garden City, Kansas. She attended Independence Country Grade School in Sublette, Kansas and graduated from Dodge City High School in 1951. She then completed Wilcox Beauty School in 1952. Dorlene and George B. Blodig were united in marriage on August 26, 1958 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Garden City, Kansas. George preceded her in death on December 4, 2016. She began her employment in Garden City, Kansas at Milody Beauty Shop in the Warren Hotel until she moved to Atchison, Kansas in 1958. She continued as a beautician in Atchison at Cut-Curl Beauty Shop. After having children, Dorlene became a stay at home mother. She did alterations for different people over the years and loved making tea towels to sell at the church fiestas. Dorlene had a great love for dancing. Dorlene and her best friend, Joan Krupinski, visited all four nursing homes as often as they could and they really enjoyed how happy that the residents were to see them. She also loved caring for her older neighbors. She enjoyed her family and loved spending time with them doing crafts, reading, and showing them how to embroider and sew. She was always so proud of her children. When she became a grandma, Dorlene baby sat her grandchildren; a job she loved because they were all so special to her. Her great grandchildren all called her “Candi”. She cared deeply about her family and she always stayed in touch with everyone. Dorlene was a member of St. Benedict Parish and formerly Daughters of Isabella. She was a community civilian liason officer for the Bootstrapper from 1971-1974. She also was previously a member of the Junior Guild and the Red Hat Group. Survivors include one son, Jeffrey (Allison) Blodig, Ozawkie, KS, three daughters, Debbie (Billy) Beagle, Atchison, KS, Deidre Keith, Kansas City, MO, Denise Blodig (Gene Gregory), Franktown, CO, twelve grandchildren, Jeremy Beagle, Lance Beagle, Ashley (Keith) Griffin, Samantha Keith, Sidney Keith, Justin Gregory, Reed Gregory, Lane Gregory, Nicci Gregory, Pierce Gregory, Chris Gregory, Alex Crouch, eight great grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Bernita George. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband George, a daughter, Mary Carol Blodig, brothers, Delmar, Deloyd, Dorrell and Dannell George, and a sister, Deloyce George.
