Lyle Loring Kufahl, 86, of Wheaton, Kansas, died Sunday, February 18, 2018, at Community Hospital, Onaga.   He was a life-long resident of the community.

Lyle was born on January 26, 1932, in Wheaton, Kansas, the son of Loring H. and Irene C. Bosse Kufahl.  He attended local schools and graduated from Wheaton High School in 1950.

Lyle was a farmer and stockman and worked his entire adult life on the family farm.  He served on the Rural Fire Department Board and Wheaton School Board.  He was an active member of St. Luke Lutheran Church and held several different offices at the church including treasurer and trustee.  Lyle loved to play pitch and ping pong.

Lyle married Erma Jean Abitz on May 31, 1953, in Wheaton.  She survives at their home.

Lyle is also survived by his children; Gerry Kufahl (Roberta), Wheaton, Jay Kufahl (Susie), Wheaton, and Cindy Bryson (Chris), Wamego; his eight grandchildren, Bridget Kufahl, Michael Kufahl (Holly), Adam Kufahl, Aileen Taylor (Ryan), Holly Thomas (Josh), Maggie Kufahl, Tyler Bryson (Dorian), and Tara Shaw (Bret), eleven great-grandchildren; and his sister, Vera Teske.  Lyle was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, William Kufahl, Doris Orr and Alice Krohn.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 23, 2018, at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Wheaton, Kansas.  Reverend Terry DeGiovanni will be officiating.  Burial will follow at St. Luke Lutheran North Cemetery.  Lyle will lie-in-state on Thursday, beginning at 3:00 p.m. at the church, where the family will greet friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.  A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m.  They suggest memorial contributions to St. Luke Lutheran Church, and those may be sent in care of Campanella-Kufahl Funeral Home.  Online condolences may be made at www.campanellafuneral.com.
