Darlene M. (Weishaar) Sittenauer from Nortonville, KS passed away January, 26, 2018 at Bridge Haven at Alvamar, Lawrence, KS. Darlene was born February 17, 1932 at home outside Nortonville, KS. She was the second of three children of Pierre C. and Anna E. (Schmidt) Weishaar.

Darlene graduated from Mount St. Scholastica High School, Atchison in 1950. She worked at Petree Propane in Horton, KS after graduation for several years. After having children, her greatest joy was staying at home with them, which she did until 1972, when she went to work at Weishaar Brothers, Inc. She worked there until her retirement in 1997.

Darlene married Eugene (Gene) Sittenauer on October 16, 1951 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Nortonville, KS. They were blessed with 65 years before he preceded her in death in 2016. She is survived by their eight children: Patty (Ed) Clinkinbeard, Jeanne (Norman) Clark, Diane (Larry) Babcock, Karen (Calvin) Ledbetter, Annette (Mike) Steinke, Cathy (Arlin) Mast, Mark (Francie) Sittenauer and Beth (Mark) Wilson; as well as 20 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Virginia Cathers. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Delores Gerety.

Darlene was always serving others and made sure everyone else came first. She attended her children’s, grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s baptisms, confirmations, graduations and sporting and school events. Until moving in 2014, Darlene was a parishioner of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Nortonville where she was involved in Altar Society and served at many parish functions as well as being active in American Legion Auxiliary and Progressive Club.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM on Monday, January, 29, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Nortonville. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. A parish rosary will be recited at the church at 2:00 PM, Sunday, January 28, 2018, with visitation to follow until 4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Alzheimer's Association, Bridge Haven at Alvamar Memory Care, Douglas County Visiting Nurses, St. Benedict’s Abbey, Atchison, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Nortonville, or Laney Ledbetter liver disease fund.

The family would like to thank Bridge Haven at Alvamar for the loving care they gave Darlene. They showed her such patience, compassion and love during her stay, as if she was also their mother. We would also like to thank Douglas County Visiting Nurses and Bridge Haven in providing her the best possible comfort during her final days.
