Mary Elizabeth “Beth” (Wagner) Miller, 82, of Atchison, Kansas, died January 11, 2018, at the Dooley Center in Atchison, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church with Fr. Jeremy Heppler as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation with the family with be held on Tuesday morning January 16, from 9:30 until 10:45 a.m. at the church. A parish rosary will be recited at 10:45 a.m. Memorial contribution are suggested to Mount St. Scholastica and may be left in care of the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with whom care has been entrusted. Beth was born November 2, 1935 in Atchison, Kansas the daughter of Mathias L. and Catherine M. (Schuele) Wagner. She attended St. Joseph’s Grade School and graduated from Mount St. Scholastica Academy.

She and Eugene F. “Gene” Miller were united in marriage on June 2, 1956, by Fr. Matthew Hall at St. Joseph’s Church. Gene preceded her in death on April 16, 2017.

Beth led an active and faith-filled life, devoted to her family. Prior to having children, she was employed with Southwestern Bell. After her children were all in school, she worked at the Wishing Well and Clothes Vault. She also worked at Arensberg Shoes until the business closed. Upon retiring from retail sales, Beth was able to devote more time to her hobbies of gardening, golf, volunteer work and socializing. Beth’s favorite time was spent with her grandchildren.

The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to all those that provided assistance with Beth’s in-home care, especially Marcy & Kevin Handke, Peggy Davis, Darlene Wagner and Donna Stec. The last seven years of Beth’s life were blessed by the loving care provided by the staff of the Dooley Center. Her life was enriched by the daily love, compassion and prayers she received from the sisters of the Mount St. Scholastica Community.

She is survived by two sons, Phillip (AnaMaria) Miller, Overland Park, KS; Henry J. “Hank” Miller, Overland Park, KS; three daughters, Ruth A. (Lee) Eckert, Atchison, KS; Peggy (David) Howard, Leavenworth, KS; Sara Miller, Prairie Village, KS; three brothers, Charles, Bill and Mike Wagner; four sisters, Sr. Catherine Agnes, CSJ, Clarita Halling, Donna Stec, Bobbie Miller, six grandchildren: Jacob and Matthias Miller, Bridget and Kenny Howard, Christian and Alyssa Miller, and a large extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister, Martha and a brother Bert.
