Galen Weiland, of Bendena, passed away January 10, 2018, at Mosiac Health Care in St. Joseph, MO.

Galen Franklin Weiland was born August 13, 1939 to Frank and Lucille (Dunn) Weiland in Highland, KS.
 
Galen attended Highland High School and Highland Community College.  He married Ruth Long on June 4, 1960.  They moved to Bendena, KS in 1963.  Galen was dedicated to the success of his Bendena Community and to Doniphan County:

Past Master of Masonic Lodge #440
50 years - continuous membership of Smithton Lodge #1 - Highland, KS
Member of the Hiawatha Elks Lodge #1741
Kansas State Representative of the 1st District - 1990 - 2001
Current Trustee of Independence Township
Current Treasurer of Rural Water District #2
Member of Midway/Doniphan West Board of Education
Former Chief of Rural Fire District #3
Former member of Mo-Kan Regional Council
Former Director of the Economic Development Commission and the Doniphan County Chamber of Commerce
 
 
He is preceded in death by his parents: Frank and Lucille, brother, James Allen D., sisters, Marsha Simpson, Paulette (Paul) Staudenmaier, Sherrie Lou (Curt) Mattox, niece, Lori Mattox, nephew, Jason Stonebarger and grandson: James Frances Weiland.
 
Survivors include wife Ruth, son Terry (Lisa) Weiland, Bendena, daughter Teresa Weiland, Palm Harbor, FL, Sister, Jody Keebler, Highland, KS, granddaughter Terra (Matt) Jones, Topeka, KS, grandson, Cody (Silvia) Weiland, Bendena, KS, granddaughter, Bereanna Weiland, Bendena, KS, great-grandson, Carter Weiland, Bendena, KS and numerous nieces and nephews
 
Memorial contributions on behalf of Galen Weiland may be made to: Bendena Community Park Fund and/or Doniphan County Home Health

A Celebration of Galen’s life is planned for 11 a.m. Monday, January 15, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Highland, with Don Harter officiating.  Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 a.m. Sunday, where the family will meet from 5 until 7 that evening.  www.chapeloaksfuneralhome.com
