Roy A. Ostertag, 78, Atchison, Kansas died Sunday, September 24, 2017, from a Glioblastoma tumor, at his home surrounded by his family

Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, September 28, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Joseph’s Church with Abbot Barnabas Senecal, OSB as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A Parish rosary will be recited on Wednesday, September 27th, at 6:30 P.M. at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home with visitation with the family to follow until 8:00 P.M. Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Benedict’s Catholic School Endowment or Catholic Charities or Mt. Calvary Cemetery Endoment and may be left in care of the funeral home. Roy was born July 14, 1939, in Atchison, Kansas, the son of Roy Alfred and Dorothy Irene (Sultzer) Ostertag. He attended Atchison Public schools and graduated from Atchison High School in 1957. Following graduation he served a five year apprenticeship to become a pattern maker.

He and Eleanor Knowles were united in marriage on July 14, 1959, at St. Joseph’s Church in Atchison with Abbot Thomas Hartman as officiant.

Roy was employed with L.F. M. (Locomotive Finished Materials) from 1959 until 1962, he then served as a salesman for Fuller Brush Company until 1968 and then for Atchison Casting Corp., as a cast developer until his retirement in 1997.

He was a member of the St. Benedict Parish in Atchison, participating at Sacred Heart Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree Sacred Heart Council #723. Roy was very active in the parish, volunteering for several years at the Sacred Heart Variety Store. He delivered for loaves and fishes; and was a cancer driver for Relay for Life for many years. He was also a member of Riverbend Promenaders Square Dance Club.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Eleanor, Atchison, KS, three sons, Craig (Jeri Ann) Ostertag, Atchison, KS, Guy (Vonda) Ostertag, Atchison, KS, Corey (Alison) Ostertag, Lancaster, KS, a daughter, Sharon Ostertag, Colorado Springs, CO, a brother, David Ostertag, San Diego, CA, a sister, Jeanne Kincaid, Leavenworth, KS, nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Janie Myer, Mary Lou Navinskey and a grandson, Shaun Ostertag.
