Everest, KS

Dotty Mae Scraper Monaghan, age 80, passed away on September 23, 2017 at home surrounded by her family.

Dotty was born on October 3, 1936 at Beloit, Kansas to Manford Noah Sr. and Francis Ellen Wrench Scraper. She graduated from Beloit High School in 1954. Dotty was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. On April 24, 1955 in Beloit, Kansas Dotty married Wayne Edwin Monaghan.

After marrying Wayne, Dotty accompanied him around Kansas as he supported the growing family. Dotty would do odd jobs and sit with family and friends to help make ends meet. When the younger children became school age, Dotty established a permanent place for the children while Wayne was gone during the week. Dotty always read her Bible and spent many hours saying prayers for her family and friends. She attended church when she could. The devotion Dotty had for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren have formed them into the people they are today.

From the union of Dotty and Wayne were born five children: four daughters: Donna Stevens (Alan Gillen) of Peabody, Brenda (Tommie) Winters of Leona, Marsha (Tanner) Caldwell of Lowell, Arkansas, and Lisa Marshall (Jeff Weems) of Baileyton, Tennessee; and one son: Thomas (Carey) Monaghan of Perry. There are sixteen grandchildren, two step grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and three step great grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, Johnny Scraper of San Antonio, Texas and one sister, Kae (Phil) Zerofski of Tewksbury, Massachusetts and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Dotty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers: Manford Scraper Jr. and Joseph Scraper, two sisters: Peggy Sellers and Betty Zimmerman, a son-in-law: Jaymes Marshall, one grandson: Jamie Stevens, one step great granddaughter: Hailey Vaughan, and that "Damn Cat": Pooh.

Upon Dotty's wishes, her body was to be cremated and no formal services to be held. The family will gather at The Horton Blue Building, Horton Kansas on September 30, 2017 from 2 pm to 6 pm. At 4 pm a reading of poems and playing of her favorite three songs will be done in memory of Dotty according to her wishes. A special message may be sent to the family at www.dishon-maple-chaney.com
