Mildred “Marie” Robinson, of Hiawatha, died Wednesday morning, August 16, 2017, at Overland Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Home.  

 Mildred Marie Candis Favors-Robinson was born to Thomas “Pete” and Edname Whitehall-Favors April 17, 1914 in St. Joseph, Missouri. Marie which she was called by family and friends grew up in a small close knit, loving community in Elwood, Kansas where she attended Elwood Elementary School and graduated from Elwood High School. Marie joined the First Baptist Church of Elwood where she was member for many years. 

On August 19, 1939, she was united in marriage to Walter B. Robinson, known by family and friends as “Walt” and moved to Hiawatha. To this union they were blessed with two children, Walter Favors and Florence Edna Marie. God blessed Marie and Walt with over 47 years of wedding bliss till his sudden death in December 1986. 

When World War II broke out and Walt joined the U.S. Army, Marie moved to Omaha, NE where she attended and graduated from Althouse Beauty School and became a licensed cosmetologist. To help in providing a comfortable living for her family, Marie worked as a cook at the Hiawatha Grade School for many years as well as doing hair in her home for people throughout the community. She also worked as a caregiver outside the home. Marie joined the Second Baptist Church of Hiawatha in September of 1948 where she remained an active member until her health began to fail. She was also an active member of Eastern Star Oziel Chapter #30. 

She leaves to mourn her two loving children, Walter Favors (Thelma Fuqua) Robinson of Oakland, CA and Florence (Michael) Grayson of Kansas City, KS, a sister Peggy Smith of Brookfield, MO. Two grandchildren, Joy (Stephen) Robinson-Melendez of Jackson, NJ and Robert “RD” Adamson, Jr. of Lee’s Summit, MO and one great grandchild Robert D. “Tre?” Adamson III of Lee’s Summit, MO and a very special sister-in-love in with whom she shared the same birthday, April 17th, Florence Combs of Hiawatha, KS as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Preceding her in death are three sisters: Alice “Dutch” Burns, Ruth Roseby, Georgianna “Sis” Chambers and three brothers: Thomas “TW”, Prentice “PJ”, and Virgil Favors.

A Celebration of Marie’s life is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday, August 19, at Second Baptist Church, 308 S 9th St, Hiawatha.  Burial will follow at the Hiawatha Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home, Hiawatha, after 12 noon Friday, where the family will visit from 6 until 8 that evening.
