Ila L. (Malicky) Spaulding, 89, of Beatrice died at Homestead House on Sunday morning, August 13, 2017. She was born September 18, 1927 near Red Cloud and with her family moved to Wymore where she attended the Wymore School system. She worked as a dental assistant and the gas company in Wymore and for State Savings and Loan/American Charter in Beatrice. She also worked for Bahr Grain in Barneston as a bookkeeper. On February 14, 1955, she married Elton Malicky and they lived and farmed in the Barneston area. They also owned and operated Mac and Ila’s upholstery and ceramic shop in Barneston. After Elton’s death, she was married to Ben Spaulding on August 31, 1990 in Beatrice. She worked as an assistant at the City Hall in Highland and also wrote for the Highland newspaper. They lived in Hiawatha, KS, Firth and Highland KS where she and her husband built two homes together. After Ben’s death, she moved to Beatrice in 2005. She was a member of Christ Community Church of Beatrice. She was also a member of the Barneston American Legion Auxiliary and had been a Jr. Auxiliary Leader, the Wymore Zephyr Dance Team, the Red Hats and the Beatrice Art Guild where she had served as President, the Garden Club of Highland and the card club at Wymore Country Club. She enjoyed bowling, painting, dancing, writing and publishing cook books, was instrumental in writing and editing the Barneston Centennial Book and moving and renovating the Otoe Indian School in Barneston. She was also an excellent cook and baker.

Survivors include one son, Jack Malicky and wife Betty; one daughter, Diana Logan all of Beatrice; two step-children, George and Susan Spaulding of Shawnee Mission, KS and Peter and Aleta Wallace of Berkeley, CA; five grandchildren, Rebecca (Wade) Spencer, James (Gracie) Golembiewski, Edward (Darlene) Golembiewski, Rodney Nies, Robin (Brian) Gilliland; five great-grandchidlren; one great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Emma Maline Crawford; by husband Elton; by husband Ben; one brother, one sister and two sons-in-law, Edward Neher and Larry Logan; one step-daughter.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, August 17, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice with Jack Magness officiating. Inurnment of the cremains will be held at 2:00 P.M. on September 18, 2017 at the Highland Cemetery of Highland, KS. A memorial has been established to the family’s choice. Visitation will be held at Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice on Wednesday from 8:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. with family greeting friends and relatives from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. www.foxfuneralhome.net.
