Lee T. Hinkle, 97, of Horton, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2017 at the VA Medical Center in Topeka, Kansas.

He was born on May 19, 1920 in Fairview, Kansas the son of Walter and Lillian Thomas Hinkle.

Lee grew up in the Fairview and Wetmore, Kansas areas and graduated from Fairview High School. He attended Kansas State University for 1 year before enlisting in the U.S. Army where he served during WWII in Alaska. After his four year enlistment he graduated from Colorado State University with a entomology degree. Lee then returned to Horton and went to work for Raney Pest Control before starting his own business, Hinkle Pest Control. Lee also ran Hinkle Furs where he bought, sold furs and taught trapping lessons. He was a member of the Horton VFW, American Legion Post #415 Auxiliary, Hall of Fame member of the National Trappers Association and worked with the Alcoholic Anonymous group on the Kickapoo Reservation.

He married Emily Meyers and they later divorced. He then married Maxine Dryer on July 29, 1966 in Oklahoma. She survives of the home. Other survivors include a son, Benjamin Dryer of Horton, Kansas; two daughters, Pamela Pete of Washougal, Washington and LeAnn (Robert) Brown of Horton, Kansas; eight grandchildren those locally, Robert Dryer II, Maresa Dryer, Cheyenne Brown and Dakota Brown, twelve great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Debbie Hinkle, three brothers, Monty, Blaine and Galen Hinkle, two sisters, Edith Dennis and Blanche Davis.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, July 7, 2017 at the Kickapoo Community Building. The family will greet friends on Thursday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas. Burial with military graveside rites will be at the Kahbeah Chapel Cemetery on the Kickapoo Reservation.
