Evelyn Louise Hochstetler, 97, of Horton, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at the Mission Village Living Center in Horton, Kansas.

She was born on March 17, 1920 in Hiawatha, Kansas the daughter of Mack and Emma Puvogel Spurrier.

Evelyn graduated from Fairview high school and then received her BA in Education from Washburn University. She was a school teacher in Brush Creek, Huron, Pleasant Hill and A.C.C.H.S in Effingham, Kansas before retiring.

Evelyn was an active member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, and she loved to travel, garden, sew and study her Bible.

One of Evelyn's lifelong passions was cooking for others through catering weddings and other celebrations, she spent over twenty-five years cooking at Broken Arrow Ranch, a Seventh Day Adventist summer camp for youth.

On November 13, 1949 she married Ivan H. Hochstetler at the First Baptist Church in Horton, Kansas. He preceded her in death on August 16, 2010.

Survivors include a son, Dr. Gary (LeAnna) Hochstetler of Topeka, Kansas; two granddaughters, Chelsea and Emily Hochstetler; sister, Viola Brownfield of Topeka, Kansas.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, Robert Spurrier, Mary Craig and Maxine Tarkington.
