Evelyn Mae Fisher, 105, of Ozawkie, died Saturday, June 3, 2017 at her home.

Evelyn Mae Hysten was born October 18, 1911 in Ozawkie, the second daughter of Fred Clifford and Zefphyr Archie Hysten. She was a 1932 graduate of Ozawkie High School and earned a Certificate of Teaching at Kansas State Teacher’s College in Emporia in 1935.  

Evelyn was a homemaker and mother, She worked hard on the farm for many years before working eight years at the Sunflower Army Ammunition plant in DeSoto, retiring in 1977. She also worked 14 years at the former Fairview Nursing Home in rural Oskaloosa. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Oskaloosa.  

She was married to Herman H. Fisher in 1941 in Topeka, He preceded her in death on August 19, 1967.

She is survived by one son, Johnny J. (Carla) Hysten, Topeka, two daughters, Louise (Robert) Davis, Liberty, MO, Carol Waters (Richard) Drummond, Topeka, one brother, Lloyd (Judy) Hysten, Berryton, one sister, Mary Lou Shepard, Lawrence, nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by seven brothers and four sisters.   

Evelyn had a love and passion for gardening, cooking, sewing, quilting and helping all who came into her life, always putting other’s needs before her own. She embraced life with a strong sense of direction, always positive and loving. She was steadfast in knowing the Lord and to glorify him first.

Funeral Service at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, June 13 at Ozawkie United Methodist Church. Burial at Ozawkie Cemetery. Visitation 9:30 to 11:00 AM, before Service at the Church.  Memorials suggested to Jefferson County Friends of Hospice, Ozawkie United Methodist Church or to Jayhawk Area Council On Aging in care of Barnett Family Funeral Home, P.O.
