Lois Shivers Hodges Puvogel, 84, of Horton, KS died Sunday morning, May 21, 2017 at Mission Village Living Center where she had been a resident for the past 18 months.

She was born August 16, 1932 to John and Bessie Shivers near rural Everest, KS the youngest of 9 children. Lois attended Horton Schools and graduated with the class of 1950. She married Donald L. Hodges on June 12, 1951. To this union three children were born. He preceded her in death October 11, 1975.

Lois married Paul Puvogel in 1980. He survives of the home.

Lois worked for Gockell’s Grocery Store prior to working for Duckwall’s. She worked for Duckwall’s for 20 plus years before retiring due to health reasons.

She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed following the Kansas City Royals and KU Basketball. In her spare time you could find Lois reading, crocheting doilies, working puzzle books, or enjoying her flowers. Lois also loved to dance.

Lois is also survived by her children, Bruce Hodges of Horton, KS, Susan and husband Jerry Hisle of Horton, KS and Kathy Rebant of Sabetha, KS, a sister, Elva Kurtz of Horton, KS., seven grandchildren, Corbin and Daniel Hodges, David, Brad, and Chris Rebant, Mitchell and Mariah Hisle, and numerous step children and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by siblings, Lester Shivers, John Shivers Jr., Opal Shivers, Sarah Shivers, Ada Spiker, Viola Spiker, and Virginia Meerphol.

Graveside Services are planned for 11 a.m., Thursday, May 25, 2017 at the Horton Cemetery. Pastor Darrell Treat of the Horton Baptist Church will officiate. Friends and family will meet at the mortuary by 10:45 a.m. prior to gravesides services to go in procession to the cemetery.

Friends may call the Dishon Maple Chaney Mortuary after 10 a.m. Wednesday where the family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m. that evening. Memorials are suggested in her name to be designated at a later date and may be sent in care of the funeral home, 909 Central Ave, Horton, KS 66439.
