Barbara Ellen Wenzl, 90 of Pawnee City, NE passed away peacefully Tuesday April 4, 2017 at the Pawnee County Hospital. She was born January 8, 1927, the 9th of 10 children to Stephen and Minnie(Gottula) Wenzl in Steinauer, NE.

She grew up on the family farm northeast of Steinauer, attended St. Anthony's school and then High School in Steinauer.

In 1949 she moved with her infant son to the farm and home of Joy and Hester Wilson west of Pawnee City to work as a domestic aid and companion for Hester.

In 1979 she went to work at the Pawnee Manor where she was a CNA and Medication aid for several years before finally retiring at the age of 80.

Her life was never easy but to complain she would say there was "no need". Happiness was found with her family and on many outdoor adventures with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Gardening, crossword puzzles, collecting recipes and cookbooks, bluebirds and coloring many pictures took up her spare time.

She had a strong will but an even stronger faith. She is loved and missed by many.

She is survived by her only son Galen Wenzl, Pawnee City. Granddaughter Carrie( Todd ) Albers, Liberty, NE. Grandson Steven( Stephanie ) Wenzl, Milbank, SD. Great grandchildren Ashton (Preston) Sunneberg, Hayden Albers, Siera and Kale Wenzl. Sister Valeria Wenzl Shearer, Lincoln, NE, Sister in law Jean Wenzl, Lincoln, NE, several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Stephen and Minnie(Gottula ) Wenzl. Two sisters; Francis and Agnes, and six brothers; Raymond, Richard, Julius, Lawrence, Robert and Walter.

Memorial services 11:00 am Tuesday April 18, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Burchard, NE. Rosary at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, April 17, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Father Michael Christensen officiating. Register book available for signing on Monday, April 17, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.,  at Wherry Mortuary, Pawnee City, Nebraska.
