Marjorie Thornton

Marjorie Elda Aller Thornton was born near Hiawatha, KS on March 28th, 1920 and passed away March 13th, 2017 surrounded by family members.  

She was the daughter of Benjamin Harrison “Harry” and Annie Marguerite (Hanson) Aller.  She graduated from Robinson High School and Highland College.  She taught at White Hall and LaGrange Schools in Brown County.  Marjorie married George Leo Thornton on August 24th, 1941. She was a member of the Troy Christian Church and attended Seward Avenue Baptist Church until it closed and Morning Star Bible Church.  She had the nursery at Seward Avenue for 32 years and did daycare in her home.  

Marjorie is survived by her six children; Daryl Thornton of Germantown, MD, Shirley Gilchrist, Wayne Thornton, Keith (Jonnie) Thornton of Fort Worth, TX, Marguerite (Randy) Kennedy, and Lowell (Kathy) Thornton.  She has seven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and one step great grandchild.  Her husband died January 13, 1967.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Lester Aller in 1982 and Buell Aller in 1999, her grandson, Brendan Gilchrist in 2007, her granddaughter, Crystal Thornton in 2008, and her grandson, Blake Thornton, in 2014.  She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, James Gilchrist, in 2016 and her daughter-in-law, Debbie Thornton, in 2016.

Funeral services will be at the Davidson Funeral Home, in Topeka, on Saturday, March 18th at 10:30 a.m.  Visitation will be Friday, 6-7:30 p.m.  Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Hiawatha, KS, Saturday at 2:00 p.m. March 18th.
