Dorthea Irene Peterson, 87, of Horton, Kansas passed away on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at the Horton Community Hospital in Horton, Kansas.

She was born on February 4, 1929 in Whiting, Kansas the daughter of Irving and Grace Dykeman Peterson.

Dorthea graduated from Whiting High School in 1947. She then went to work for the United Telephone Company as a telephone operator and assistant in Horton and Hiawatha until her retirement in 1985. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Horton, Kansas and was an avid KU Jayhawk Basketball Fan.

Survivors include a nephew, Ron (Joyce) Peterson of Hoyt, Kansas; three great nephews, Jeremy (Helen) Kennedy, Ryan (Tricia) Peterson and Drew (Chelsye) Peterson; three great-great nephew & nieces, Rhett Kennedy, MaKenzie Kennedy and Penny Peterson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Glenn Peterson, sister, Bernice Peterson and a niece, Kathy Sue Kennedy.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, December 5, 2016 at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas were the family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the Springhill Cemetery in Whiting, Kansas. Memorials may be made to the Dorthea Peterson memorial fund to be designated later and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
