Henry " Hank" Hulsing

Henry Nicholas “Hank” Hulsing, 79, Topeka, passed away suddenly Wednesday, November 30, 2016, at Stormont-Vail Health Center, comforted with love as he was surrounded by his family.

Hank was born to Henry Joseph and Ida Josephine Gelhaus Hulsing in Axtell KS on March 6, 1937. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in St. Benedict KS in 1955. He was married to Rita F. Fenton on November 8, 1958, and to this union three children were born. They divorced in 1986.

Hank owned and operated AAA Glass Service for 32 years and in his “retirement” owned and operated The 20’s in Brookwood. Hank was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Topeka Lodge #51 AF & AM, Arab Shrine and the Arab Boaters Unit.

Hank was active in the Topeka community, serving as president of the Topeka Jaycees, was the charter president of the Washburn Rural Optimist Club and participated in the founding of the Ken Berry Baseball Complex. He was a long time member of the Topeka Home Builders Association, Sales and Marketing Executives of Topeka, the Topeka Material Men’s Organization and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 534, third degree. Hank and his family were also charter members of Christ the King Catholic Church. As a charter member, Hank served on the architectural committee.

Grateful to have shared his life are his children, Nadyne and Brian Hagmeier, Cheryl and Brad Koehn and Kevin and Melissa Hulsing; grandchildren, Katy Hagmeier and Ben Peetz, Stephanie Hagmeier, Tyler Koehn, Brett Koehn, Courtney Koehn, Zach Hulsing, Ben Hulsing and Madeline Hulsing; brothers, Victor “Bud”, Ben and Joseph Hulsing; sisters, Mildred Kohake, Ida Rose Sextro-Wichman and Marcie Meyer; as well as many nieces, nephews and beloved friends.

Hank was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Celestine “Sally” and Emil Hulsing; sisters, Henrietta Holthaus, Mary Stallbaumer, Florence Kohake and Elizabeth McGuire.

Family will greet friends Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614, with a parish rosary following at 6 p.m.

Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 3601 SW 17th Street, Topeka KS 66604.

Inurnment will follow at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, St. Mary’s Church in St. Benedict KS or to Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, sent in care of the funeral home.
